Restaurant Recipes

Okay, so this section isn’t so much on healthy recipes, but on those foods you might have trouble giving up as you switch to a more healthy diet.

For me, it was Arby’s. I grew up on Arby’s roast beef sandwiches, slathered in their Arby’s sauce. Just thinking about it even now makes my mouth water. But, I gave that up when I switched to a healthy diet, because I knew that the fast food wasn’t helping my health issues any.

America’s Most Wanted Recipes is a two-volume set that is full of recipes from the restaurants you love to eat at. Volume 2 has the recipe for Arby’s sauce in it.

What good does this do you if you want to switch to a healthier diet? Well, when you have the recipe you can make substitutions. Put olive oil in place of a less healthy oil. Lower the salt content of the recipe. Use fresh natural and organic ingredients. Whatever makes the recipe healthier you can adjust, because you’re the one making it.

You’ll have to experiment with each recipe to see how healthy you can make it and still have it taste like you remember. I’ve found that I can adjust the recipes a fair amount, so that they don’t taste exactly like I remember, but it still satisfies that part of me that sometimes just wants the taste of Arby’s sauce.
